Respect: A Happy Client is a Good Client

By: Sam Little

One of the most important aspects of any case is that of the client themselves. They are the ones with the problem and they are the ones seeking truth. They trust us to enter their homes and allow us a chance to advance our knowledge of the field. That being said it is vital that they be treated with respect and dignity. Too many researchers are trying to act as if the client is unneeded for the case and investigation even going as far as to ask the client to leave.

This attitude is disturbing to say the least! I say treat the client like an aquaintance at the very least. Show them the trust and respect that they have showed you. Below is a list of ways you can insure a happy client.

1. Fees- preferably don’t charge for investigations. If you must only charge for help with gas and then only if you are traveling a great distance.

2. Be on time. Don’t be late if you can help it. If you are going to be late call ahead so the client is aware of the delay.

3. Always greet the client with a friendly gesture and a handshake.

4. Never act as if you doubt the client’s account (even if you do).

5. If a client asks about a method or piece of gear answer them in a polite manner and help them to understand what you are doing.

6. Always be polite.

7. Never give your opinion on whether or not the location is or is not haunted until all evidence has been evaluated.

8. Allow clients to view the evidence.

9. Respect confidentiality

10. Always be professional.
